Ranma 1/2 is primarily a comedy about crazy, obsessive characters. All the girls are young and very cute-looking (actually, Ranma has some of the cutest character designs in anime), but more often than not they're angry at each other or pursuing their greedy desires (in a humorous way). In fact, Ranma is constantly calling Akane "kawaikunai" (not cute). They do however get into a lot of cute personal conflicts due to their simple (!) minds, often ending up with Akane slapping Ranma or hitting her/him way up into the air. And, every once in a while Ranma and Akane show some tenderness toward each other, which makes them temporarily a cute couple.
